It’s not always true that you can’t have it both ways. VoIP and the public switched telephone network both offer advantages and drawbacks to the consumer, and some choose to utilize both. One company has recently presented a service that combines VoIP and traditional phone prepaid long distance calling.
OneSuite launched its hybrid phone service—a nifty way to combine VoIP and PSTN calling capabilities.
The combo, called OS Hybrid, allows customers to switch calling methods. Customers can take advantage of things like fax to e-mail and PC calling under one account.
OneSuite aims to meld the best features of both services. Calling card users who face overloaded networks during peak calling times can make VoIP calls on their PC using a softphone. VoIP callers can make traditional phone calls when Internet service is unavailable. OneSuite offers free PC-to-PC calling and low PC-to-phone rates.
“With the combination of web-based prepaid calling card and VoIP, consumers get the best of two worlds. It’s up to them to leverage benefits and accessibility for their convenience,” said Alice Ching, OneSuite Marketing Vice President.
OneSuite uses “pay as you go” billing methods, with a US $10 signup fee and low subscription fees.
Internet calling is particularly attractive to students due to shared phone lines in dorms as well as the scarcity of cash, plus the need to make long distance calls to friends and family.
OneSuite is the first I know of to combine the two services, but I’m sure they won’t be the last. Customers will appreciate the features and flexibility of both services, and it will also ease the transition to VoIP for many users.

I am a Onesuite Hybrid user and sure enough I was never out of access when it comes to making phone calls or getting that important fax. Onesuite VoIP comes quite handy in a situation where you don’t have a landline access or has a weak mobile phone signal plus using its voip usually saves you even more in about dozen countries or so. Now we have a choice which one to use, which one suits us best, all in one web based account.
