A new portable VoIP phone using WiMAX data communications made its public debut at the 2008 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Developed jointly by Tokyo-based NetIndex Inc., Kaga Electronics Co. and the Israeli Runcom Technologies, the phone uses All-IP voice communication as well as high-speed data communications. It can also use WiFi, 3G and PHS technology.
Users will be able to access the Internet on a broadband connection as well as use voice, IM and video communication.
Kaga Electronics will be selling the phone under its name.
The companies also plan to produce a mobile broadband portable telephone for business enterprises, and NetIndex is “aggressively pursuing development of products using next-generation high-speed wireless communications technology,” according to a news release.
