Nokia has released a mobile phone with an integrated VoIP client in the European market.
The 6300i should be available in mid 2008, according to the company. The phone features a high-speed WLAN Internet connection. Up to 2,000 VoIP, home and mobile numbers can be listed, and WLAN and VoIP symbols note the type of connection and service used.
The phone also features a camera, internal membory, a 512mb microSD card, MP3 player, FM radio and Nokia applications including maps, WidSets and Download. It uses the Opera Mini Internet browser.
Don’t rock the boat, baby: Nokia’s new gadget is upsetting mobile service providers. Users can avoid using the cellular phone network if wireless broadband is available, thus escaping the fees involved. Traditional mobile phone providers fear mobile VoIP will do the same damage to their business as VoIP has done to providers of landline telephone service.
