The sleeping on the sidewalks is over, and the iPhone is now readily available. Whether you camped out in front of the store, paid too much to someone else who did, or bought it online, you’re probably wondering how to make VoIP calls on it.
Oh, you’re not?
Well, maybe you should be.
Mobile VoIP is still in its infancy, but if that’s your preferred method of utilizing this year’s hot trendy tech must-have, be aware of SoonR. SoonR’s workaround application allows you to make VoIP calls on your iPhone.
The AJAX-enabled SoonR Talk allows users to dial their home PC from their iPhone handset, select a http://www.skype.com buddy from their list, and the program dials their mobile using SkypeOut.
Whew, got all that? Here it is in a nutshell: the workaround enables your iPhone handset to act like a remote control to utilize Skype VoIP calling from your home PC.
It’s a little complicated, and then there’s SkypeOut charges for the PC-to-mobile end of the call. Plus the minutes used, depending on the plan. But for international calling, or Skype conference calls, it’s nice to have the option.
More and better VoIP calling on the worlds’ hottest phone is probably coming down the line, as hackers have “owned the filesystem.”
Or is that “pwned”?
