Infrastructure systems giant EMC recently released VOIP management software designed to optimize system management and performance.
For businesses that depend on a fully functional, capable communications system, EMC offers two packages: The VoIP Performance Manager and Smarts VoIP Performance Reporter.
“They perform different functions,” said EMC Smarts’ senior global practice manager Tom Griffin. “Performance Manager gives helpdesks and [network] operation centres, real-time data to help with short term problems, while Reporter analyses the data to help with long-term capacity planning and the ‘traffic load’ profiles over firms IP telephony sites.”
Both packages are designed to deliver real-time data on the system’s performance and quality to managed service providers and global enterprises. The software monitors call quality and volume, route patterns, service availability and connections.
The software is supported on Avaya Communications Manager 3, Cisco Unified Communications Manager 5, Cisco Unified CallManager 4, and Cisco CallManager 3.
“Smarts VPM and VPR easily integrates with other third-party management systems – but we’d use our system integration partners and professional services people to do this,†said Griffin.
The system helps streamline management of widespread networks with mixed components, and can generate reports on historical performance and trends.
The Smarts system’s ability to manage and diagnose many levels of complex phone systems makes it a viable choice for businesses that want to maximize IT resources, call quality and efficiency.
“For most enterprises and managed service providers, the right time to adopt IP telephony is now,” said the Yankee Group’s Vanessa Alvarez, Associate Analyst, Enabling Technologies. “But for all its promises, IP telephony deployments should not be taken lightly — as they introduce new levels of complexity into the management environment. To effectively maximize the value of VoIP deployments, companies need comprehensive solutions with the ability to manage software performance and take corrective action as problems occur.”
